Throw together a smile tank with maximum print leggings and coloured Ts and you have the perfect 213 apparel look, guaranteed to make you happy! The gorgeous duo Charlotte and Sammy from 213 Apparel share their design influences behind the recent collection ‘The Happiness Revolution’. An eclectic range that gives tribute to the 70’s beach vibe.
For all you wild yogis you will find powerful patterns and colorful prints and lots of colour in this collection to set you apart from the rest.
Let’s start with how you both meet? The perfect combination of Yogi Guru & Designer talent.
We met six years ago through our boyfriends at the time and we’ve kept in contact ever since. Sammy pursued the yogi path opening Yoga 213, while I was as a buyer at Sportsgirl and then traded that in for the yogi life too.,.
and…How was 213 Apparel born?
We began talking about it a year ago during the Yoga 213 Teacher Training and from there it grew pretty quickly. Six months later we are stocked on various online retail stores, as well as boutique shops through out Australia.
How did you turn your vision of creating stylish, “happy” active wear that truly reflects your easy going nature, into a reality?
We both had a very clear vision that it needed to reflect the 213 brand ethos of ‘To Be Happy’. We’re inspired by the beach, music, outdoors and feeling free. We are also very fussy customers and couldn’t find styles or prints that we wanted to wear. Everywhere you look now on the street people are wearing their active wear. We wanted to make a mixed breed of yoga wear and street wear – which is now the uniform for everyday life.
What was the inspiration behind your new range ‘The Happiness Collection’?
Our new collection is called Happiness Revolution. Our prints are inspired by the 70’s. We’ve introduced new summer essential shapes such as our Short Beach Leggings, our hot Hollywood crop and our Malibu and Universal Tanks – perfect for summer days and nights. Our colour palette moves into dark khakis, peach pinks, turquoise mixed back with navy and charcoal and we’ve extended our fabric selection into cotton pima and cotton modal for a more luxurious soft feel.
The patterns, colour and cuts from this range are so gorgeous and unique! How do you want people to feel when they are wearing 213 Apparel?
Sexy, happy, confident, comfortable and free spirited.
We’re seeing more and more activewear pop up in shops and online, what do you see as your point of difference?
Our prints are stand outs, our fabric quality is unique, and we are mixing the boundary between active wear and street wear whilst making it fashionable and cool.
What has been the best part of launching 213 Apparel?
Knowing that there are so many ways to express yourself. And when you are doing something you love, people will love it in return.
Body image is a topic TWOSIX feel strongly about. We believe as activewear designers you play an important role in promoting a healthy body image, do you agree?
We think activewear should be something that every girl can feel confident and comfortable in. We are definitely mindful ensuring that we promote a healthy lifestyle and body image by making sure our designs can be worn by anyone and the prints are flattering on all body shapes. We think the happiest girls in the room are the prettiest girls in the room.
If you had to pick just one piece from the new range, what would be your favourite and why?
Sammy: Long Beach Panel leggings are mine
Charlotte: Mine are the Long and Short Beach Leggings in Python print
What’s next for 213 Apparel?
We are showing at Axis Tradeshow in New York in February 2016, which we are super excited about. We are also launching into Accessories and homewares by end of 2016.
