Most people assume that the way to be more highly productive at work is to work longer hours and work harder. The answer simply isn’t that easy to figure out, and it is implementing strategies that help create balance in your every day and allow time and space for reflection, that will boost productivity and efficiency in the workplace.
MAKE MORNINGS FUN
Try to avoid checking your phone and emails as soon as you wake up. Get the most out of your mornings by playing music, going for a run or a brisk walk, head to yoga class, or make a breakfast date with yourself, or with a friend or colleague. Taking time in the morning to incorporate activities you enjoy sets you up for a happier day ahead, boosting your mood and upping your level of inspiration.
WRITE IT DOWN
Making lists is definitely the way to go when it comes to freeing up space in your head. Write down, with pen and paper, appointments, tasks, questions, meetings and any other plans. Trying to commit all of these things to memory is a waste or brainpower, and writing things down helps to get you out of your own head and into the present moment. Write down what’s important and forget the rest.
LEARN TO RELAX
Constantly being ‘on’ doesn’t make you any more productive. Being able to relax and learning breathing and meditation techniques, practicing yoga, or participating in any other relaxing, mind-body focussed activity is a great way to destress and declutter your mind. This relaxed feeling will flow over into other areas of your life, and will help you to focus on what’s important in a relaxed way.
REMEMBER THAT YOUR BODY IS A TEMPLE
Stress is real and it has a very real impact on your body. You can help alleviate this stress on the body by eating well, getting enough sleep and drinking enough water. rely on quick fixes in stressful times. Meal planning and writing a grocery list is a great way to make sure that you have healthy meals and snacks on hand so that you aren’t caught out if you are going to be at work late, or something comes up that you can’t get out of. Take small breaks throughout the day and stretch and when you finally get home. Making sure that you get a decent amount of sleep and resisting the urge to watch television or check your phone late at night are great ways to ensure that your body has ample time to recover and prepare for the following day.
BE CREATIVE
Scheduling time to be creative is a great way to boost productivity and cope with the work day. Making time to focus totally on your chosen creative outlet, be it writing, painting, playing music or singing in the shower, nurturing your creative side will leave you feeling fulfilled and increase your self-esteem, which directly impacts how you function in the workplace and in social interactions.
Your life in and outside of the office is positively influenced when you have a healthy body and healthy mind. A healthy work-life balance leads to a healthier, more fulfilled life, overall.
