Meet Holly Cooper- Nutritionist

October 29, 2014

We’re so excited to introduce you to this local talent and it’s not just because she’s adorable! Her commitment to wellbeing and mental health is something to admire as is her journey to becoming a qualified nutritionist. Her smile and can-do attitude will lure you in but its her wealth of knowledge that will keep you coming back for more…

Can you tell us how you came to be a Nutritionist?

I knew early on in my career that I wanted to help others, however as it so typically does, my career quickly led me in another direction. I found myself entrenched in a high pressure, corporate background that eventually taught me the importance of putting health, happiness and a balanced life ahead of corporate success. This realisation propelled me take charge and take a step back from my career. I changed jobs, moved to part time hours and enrolled in a Masters of Nutrition degree. I have now completed my Masters and balance part-time work and blogging with building my Nutritional Counselling business and I couldn’t be happier.

When you made those changes in your life to be healthy and balanced, what did you notice about your relationship with your body and mind?

The old adage ‘healthy body, healthy mind’ certainly rings true. When I eat well and make time to work out I feel happy, balanced and confident in my skin.

What does balance mean to you?

When I have the time to do a little bit of everything I love, for example; some work, some exercise, some cooking, some time with the people I love and some relaxation time.

Can you describe a day in the life of Holly Cooper?

A typical day is to get up early! Have a yummy breakfast, make a green smoothie for lunch and pack some snacks (usually yoghurt, a bliss ball and some raw nuts) to take along with me to work. Work all day, come home and do some exercise (if I haven’t done any at lunch) before cooking a yummy dinner, reading whatever book I am currently reading in the bath and watching an episode or two of Revenge, Scandal or Orange is the new black with my man.

What do you believe is the most important change people should make if they want to be kinder to their bodies?

To focus on their own healthy journey and progress, everyone is different so do not compare yourself to the person next to you. Also don’t beat yourself up if you stray from your healthy eating, a little indulgence is necessary and should be enjoyed, just ensure your next meal is a healthy one.

What are the plans for Holly Cooper nutritionist?

I hope to continue to develop my blog, creating interesting content and tasty, healthy and fresh recipes for my followers. Another goal is to become a regular contributor to my favourite health magazine – Women’s Health. That would be the ultimate achievement.

And lastly, what is your perfect meal & ideal setting?

It would have to be Crispy Salmon (obsessed) with a yummy Asian inspired salad, with a glass of Riesling followed by a raw Tiramisu cheesecake – gosh I am salivating at the thought of it! The ideal setting would be on a beach in Bali – bliss.
