Everything you have in your life is something you have chosen. Be it your work, your relationships, your hobbies, and even your daily habits. However, are these things you’ve actively chosen consciously, or have they evolved on an unconscious level?
It’s important to remember that you have choice at every moment, whether that be to choose the same thing, or if it has evolved to choose again for a new reason, or to choose something completely different; recognising it’s not about the “what”, or the “how”, but about your “why”.
Why do you do what you do? Has the ‘why’ changed since you first began?
When inspiring action, it’s not about what you sell, or what you create, it’s about why you do it that ultimately engages others.
Why do you want to bring a talent or business idea to the world? And are you doing it for the right reasons?
This doesn’t have to be just on a work level; why do we do anything we do?
All of life shifts and changes constantly.
You’re a different person to the one you were yesterday, to last year, to five years ago, to 10 years ago, and so on. We’re always changing depending on the new information we learn, the people we meet, and the experiences we have in our lives.
What applied to who you were at 21, is totally different to the person you are now and what you might want, need or desire.
Dissolving old ways of being
It’s possible to keep on coming back to “the why”, to understand why you created something in the first place, and whether this is still relevant in your life today. If it’s changed or lost meaning, perhaps it’s time to let something go; or alternatively, find a new way of approaching it?
The more we can dissolve old patterns or ways of being that no longer serve us, the more we can become open to what is pertinent to our lives in the now, and increase the natural, creative flow occurring in the present.
How do we know our why?
In our busy world, we rarely take the time to connect inwards to really listen. The simplest way of approaching this is to get still and tune into the heart, stepping away from the mind and “the should’s”, “the have to’s” and the constant doing.
Perhaps this is through meditation, yoga, or a long walk in nature. Whatever feels right for you, with the aim to find a way to calm the chatter of the mind, so you can actually hear what is going on inside.
Ask yourself in these moments:
What do I value?
What is it I truly want to create in life?
Is the way I’m living supporting this dream?
What do I need to let go of, or breathe new life into, in order to bring this into reality?
Keeping every moment new
I invite you to come from an attitude of newness, seeing the potential in each moment, knowing that what you did yesterday doesn’t have to be the way you do things today.
We’re always evolving and changing as a part of our evolution; and rather than hanging on to old patterns, you can engage “the why”, embracing the present, and keeping your choices alive for what will serve you best today.
