The word “spontaneous” is often dropped into sentences when we refer to our “ideal lifestyle” and is not thought of as something that is easily incorporated into our everyday lives. When people think about spontaneity they usually associate it with adventure or risk, and see it as a luxury that only those of us with ample time and money can afford. However, being spontaneous doesn’t have to mean being extravagant. There are many small ways to mix up our everyday routines and include things that are not necessarily planned or thought of at length before-hand.
Whether it’s changing our exercise routine, cooking a new and daring meal or participating in something we have never considered before, being a little bit spontaneous can do wonders for our state of mind and physical health.
Here are four ways to bring some spontaneity into our lives:
1. Try an alternative physical activity… There are so many activities out there for you to try that are very different and will challenge your body and mind. Just jump on the internet and book in a class that you have never even considered before!
Why not try:
Aerial Yoga…Or anti-gravity yoga as it is also known, incorporates the same principles as regular yoga- the difference is you are suspended a meter above the ground in a silk hammock! Aerial yoga stretches and lengthens your spine and body with less strain.
2. Cook a meal from a different cuisine… Ever wanted to book a trip to Morocco and indulge in their traditional cuisine? A cheaper way to immerse yourself in a foreign culture is to cook a delicious meal using traditional ingredients! This may involve a trip to your local market to pick up a few key items, but it’s worth it!
Why not try:
Moroccan quinoa cakes… a super easy dish that uses a variety of spices and the oh so versatile quinoa. Recipe on

3. Go on a road trip… When you wake up on a Saturday morning, instead of sleeping in and spending the day lounging around in your dressing gown, jump in the car and drive! A road trip doesn’t have to be far, just as long as you go somewhere that makes you happy, relaxed and where you can forget about the worries of the working week!
Why not try:
The Great Ocean Road… Fresh air, windy roads and the breathtaking scenery of Victoria’s coastline. Plenty of places to park along the way and admire the views, or stop for a coffee and cake in Anglesea or Lorne.
4. Have a technology-free day… Set yourself the challenge of not turning on anything electronic for the day. Do not panic! There are plenty of things to do if you us your imagination and are prepared to be a little bit spontaneous!
Why not try:
Doing something crafty, write some poetry, clear out your wardrobe, bake a massive cake, go to the library and read some classics or even take a quick dip in the ocean!
Add a little bit of spontaneity into your life today!
