We all experience it, that little voice inside your head saying “It’s too dark”, “It’s too cold”, “Sleep is so good” or “I’ll go tomorrow”. With Winter fast approaching the excuses we come up with to avoid exercise can go into overdrive!! To keep you on track to stay active, maintain the fitness you’ve worked on building and stay energised and healthy, check out the tips we’ve compiled below:
1. Set a goal and keep your eye on the prize: This can be anything from completing a 5k run, fitting into those Summer shorts with ease, performing push-ups on your toes instead of your knees to easing that back pain you suffer from daily.
2. Align training schedules with a friend: Having other people to train with can not only get you to go to the session in the first place but it can help you work harder whilst you are there. Having others pushing themselves beside you is sometimes all the motivation you need to keep pushing yourself!
3. Variety: Vary your exercise routine. Mix it up to keep yourself from getting bored with the same thing. Try group classes eg. Yoga, Pilates, Barre, Boxing and Cycle/Core classes or, try to go for an outdoor walk or run on the weekend when the weather allows.
4. Focus on the benefits: What does exercise do for you – not only physically but mentally? Remember how it makes you feel afterwards. Think of the rewarding feeling you get as you mentally pat yourself on the back after work-out, and remember how energised, de-stressed and happy you feel when you walk out of the studio.
